Modeled after Amazon Web Services (AWS) GameDay for Public Sector Partners, T-Rex held a virtual GameDay to support our core value of Continuous Learning and Agility and Innovation.
T-Rex invests in programmatic planning to provide virtual technical training sessions. As a hands-on method to apply this training, T-Rex created an internal GameDay, leveraging our AWS Training Lab. The logistics of our GameDay were modeled after a real AWS GameDay, including time pressure. Participants were presented with five scenarios per team and asked to determine if they could connect to a target computer. Each scenario contained different scoring based on the level of difficulty. Most of the participants in this GameDay had a Cybersecurity background, so our host, T-Rex’s Director of Solutions Architecture & Centers of Excellence Cloud Lead, Philip M. Gollucci, was considered an untrusted adversary.
Our first-place team won a $100 prize.
“I had fun while learning at T-Rex’s GameDay, and I can apply these skills to my everyday work to assist our government customers” said Akinwale Fasuru, Security Operations/Engineer Manager.
“Using my skills to answer the basic question of ‘Why can’t I connect?” was very valuable to me” said Nic Jones, Lead Information Security Analyst.
“I was excited to learn some hands-on skills that will help in troubleshooting certain connectivity issues in my ‘day job’” said Hani Atalla, Splunk Security Engineer.
In addition to exemplifying T-Rex’s technical skills and teamwork, participants were excited to practice and hone their skills to win future AWS GameDays, and ultimately provide better innovations to our public sector clients.
Partnering with our Executive Vice President of cybersecurity, Dr. Allen Harper, we will continue to host other technical contests utilizing our internal training courses as a foundation. Our upcoming GameDays will involve topics such as debugging SSL Certificate and a Database crashing under load and optimizing queries.
